Mission will provide tantalizing menu for HFTH’s Christmas Festival of Services Dinner
ATLANTA – Dec. 16, 2009 – Pastor Young Lee of Yesana Mission is providing Atlanta-based Hosea Feed the Hungry (HFTH), the Southeast’s largest food bank serving families and individuals directly, with volunteers and enough Korean specialty and other Asian foods to feed 3,000 people during the 40th Anniversary Christmas Festival of Services Dinner at Turner Field on Dec. 25, 2009. The donation of food and service is also meant to inspire other Asian individual donors to make HFTH their charity of choice and to help fight hunger and homelessness. The mission church will add Korean culture through dance and song performances for those attending the event.
HFTH, which is celebrating its 40th anniversary of serving the needy in Atlanta and around the world, will serve the food from Yesana Mission church in addition to its normal Christmas menu. The Korean-Asian menu consists of salad, steamed cabbage, Korean seasoned beef, spicy chicken vegetable, rice, egg omelet, Sushi and bananas for desserts.
“Our ultimate goal is to help people in the community”, states Yesana Mission’s Young Lee. “This is a chance to show Korean culture, to partner with Americans and also an opportunity to introduce Hosea Feed the Hungry to Korean culture. We have cooked in many shelters around the city like Gateway, The Potters House and Shepherds Inn. Being with our Hosea Feed the Hungry friends now is another honorable way to do what Jesus would have us do.”
Because of the economy, corporate and individual contributions are down 35 percent, while monthly calls for help with human services are up a staggering 45 percent. Additionally, HFTH has announced a major capital campaign for 2010 to raise money for a new Care Center where it can better serve the working poor and homeless with critical, year-round human services like rent assistance, help to pay utilities, weekly food boxes, counseling, employment services and help finding temporary housing.
"This is a serious economic time for HFTH as we are constantly evaluating our ability to impact the needy in our community by carefully tracking service requests, coordinating with city and county agencies as well as other area nonprofit organizations,” said HFTH Executive Director Elisabeth Omilami. “We are reaching out to a more diverse community for donors and support. This relationship will allow us to serve more people so our clients’ needs can be met through HFTH programs or through referrals to other agencies like Yesana Mission Church." HFTH’s valued community partners will ensure that it continues serving those in need for another 40 years. Everyone can make a difference in helping those in need, no matter how large or small a contribution.
